THE PAST 8 WEEKS

the last 8 weeks have been an intense and exciting time period for all of us here at Qbots. After getting selected to be part of the Open Innovation CityVerve project we moved to The Bright Building offices at Manchester Science Park.

Our main focus was to get the Dashboard from a prototype design to a functioning system with real data. We started with the concept of having an astechically pleasing dashboard that was easy for anybody to understand and use, from this we created user journeys and concentrated a lot of time into the UX/UI. Our Developer Ahmad used our designs to create the functioning version that we would be able to present at the Demo Day.

We were able to use these 8 weeks to gain data and information on possible buildings that we could work with.

CITYVERVE AND OPEN INNOVATION

CityVerve brings together the brightest minds and pioneering uses of Internet of Things (IoT)technologies to redefine ‘smart’ in the context of a living, working city. We were specifically evolved in the Energy and Environment theme, focused on enhancing the energy management of their buildings, the quality of air we breathe in, and the wider cleanliness and sustainability of our city.

THE DAY

20.06.2017 – Demo Day

The event was held at City Labs 1.0, with all projects outlining the four key theme areas – Travel & Transport, Health & Social Care, Energy & Environment, and Culture & Public Realm. More than 200 people came to see the ideas that will shape the future of Manchester becoming a smart city including the leader of manchester city council  Sir Richard Leese’s who reflected on the project stating.

“We might not be the biggest city,” he said, “but in Manchester we know that if you can’t compete on scale then it means you need to be smart – and that is what City Verve is all about.”

During the day we presented live demos using Alexa showing the smart and quick response that Qbots can give.

The day ended with a showcase. Every company had the chance to show in 5 minutes what they have achieved in the past 8 weeks and their plans for the future. Vijay did our presentation and was able to communicate how much we had accomplished and how we plan to carry on at the same rate.

After the event we were able to unwind and relax after the intense 8 weeks and network with the other companies that had also put the hard work into making CityVerve Open Innovation a successful program.
