We have come a long way since starting in 2018, with recently delivering a contract to NHS trust in Wythenshawe, Manchester to deliver carbon reduction with heat pump, battery storage and smart controls; also, recently providing our services to Europe's largest battery project (250 MWh). We help business customers achieve net zero carbon emissions, supported over 200 businesses in the UK including breweries, offices, manufacturing, retail, and hospitality sites.

We do this by consulting with our customers helping them understand and measure their carbon emission, then set Net Zero targets. By providing our smart carbon reduction dashboard we are able to monitor and provide insights to achieve Net Zero. Our AI-driven energy trading and optimisation platform achieves huge cost savings for customers by maximising the use of local generation, utilising battery storage and demand flexibility. This intelligence is powered at the edge by the SmartQube Hub, our dedicated hardware gateway that enables real-time analytics and precise control of distributed assets.

We’re a team but also a family. We dream big, iterate fast, and build real stuff. Q Energy seeks a driven Business Development Manager with experience of scaling smart energy technology and energy services-based businesses in the UK to join their Team.

The Role:

As a Business Development Manager, you will be responsible for the profitable growth of the business within the Northwest Region and the rest of the UK, with emphasis on generating new customer leads within the Industrial and Commercial sectors, as well as expanding our offerings to existing clients & partners. The product and service will include dashboard software along with hardware such as monitoring & control devices, battery storage and heat pumps.  You will be supported by a small team of Net Zero solution experts, Energy contract sales specialists and Bid Managers. The successful candidate will have sound knowledge of industrial and commercial energy markets, together with a proven track record of generating customer leads.

You need to be a motivated self-starter, with entrepreneurial spirit and a willingness to get stuck in to grow Q Energy’s portfolio in the renewable energy market. You will rigorously achieve against your individual lead generation & sales targets, whilst contributing to Zero Carbon electricity procurement and carbon reduction services strategy. In this role you will be collaborating closely with Q Energy partners to generate new leads to the business. This role will report to Q Energy board & the Managing Director.

Accountabilities:

  • Support the creation of the growth strategy and marketing plan
  • Delivery of agreed lead generation and sales targets
  • Proactively build client relationships to maintain a strong pipeline
  • Leverage your network to develop and maintain strategic relationships with target counterparties and partners to enable deal flow and lead generation.
  • Ensure CRM system is up to date and make improvements to processes 
  • Ability to take customers through a Net Zero journey from consultancy to energy monitoring, green electricity procurement, smart building control, solar, battery storage, smart Electric vehicles charging and heat-pump projects
  • Act as a Q Energy ambassador in client meetings, conferences and webinars.

  • Actively manage the routes to market, identify and attend networking events
  • Engage and nurture executive relationships across the industry which will generate new business opportunities and raise the profile of the company in the sectors
  • Working with the Solutions Team to develop proposals in accordance with customer expectations.
  • Work with the solutions team to accurately price solutions that deliver target margins.
  • Working with CEO to develop opportunity business cases and resolving finance queries.
  • Ability to articulate the key risks and benefits of the opportunity to internal stakeholders.
  • Liaising with third party funders/investors to secure funding and financing.

The experience you will need Essential: 

  • Demonstrable knowledge of the Energy services industry with specific awareness of one or more of the following: energy monitoring and remote management systems, Smart building controls, Metering solutions, solar projects, Battery storage and Heat pumps.
  • Experience in UK power, carbon consultancy or trading environment with demonstrable experience of taking opportunities from discovery to deal close.
  • Experience influencing a range of senior and executive level stakeholders, both internally and externally.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills. 
  • Flexibility regarding working hours to meet business demands. 

Desirable: 

  • Energy management software & technology solution sales experience
  • Demonstrable knowledge of energy contracts, flexible energy purchasing from wholesale energy markets, PPAs with generators and energy performance contracts
  • Experience in negotiating power purchase agreements for renewable generators
