SSS Industrial Doors Ltd, a specialist manufacturer established in 2006, sought to reduce their substantial electricity costs and enhance their energy sustainability. With a significant annual energy consumption of approximately 31.08 MWh, the company aimed to utilise their existing solar generation more effectively and store excess solar energy to decrease reliance on grid electricity.

Solution

The best time to establish protocols with your clients is when you onboard them.

To address their energy needs, we designed and installed a comprehensive system consisting of:

  • 30 kW/120 kWh Battery Storage System: To store excess solar power generated and trade the Battery by charging the battery at cheaper periods and discharging at peak periods based on a day-ahead signal from the electricity markets.
  • 50 kW Solar Installation: To increase the capacity for solar energy generation, complementing their existing setup by working with our solar installation partner.

This system was tailored to seamlessly integrate with the company’s operations, ensuring minimal disruption while maximising energy savings.

Results

The best time to establish protocols with your clients is when you onboard them.

  • Energy Cost Savings: The installation has led to average monthly savings of £2,239.74 on their electricity bills, demonstrating significant cost efficiency.
  • Increased Energy Autonomy: With the enhanced ability to store and use solar energy, SSS Industrial Doors has reduced its dependency on grid power, aligning with its sustainability goals.

The best time to establish protocols with your clients is when you onboard them.

Impacts

The best time to establish protocols with your clients is when you onboard them.

The project not only reduced operational costs but also supported SSS Industrial Doors Ltd in their commitment to environmental sustainability:

  • Improved ROI: by having the BESS in addition to solar it reduced the payback from 8 years to 5 years.
  • Sustainability Goals: By optimising the use of renewable energy, the company has taken a significant step towards reducing its carbon footprint.

The successful implementation at SSS Industrial Doors Ltd serves as a model for similar industrial applications.

Challenge

As the UK moves toward net-zero 2050, managing the balance between intermittent renewable output and demand is critical. Minety required a way to store surplus energy, reduce curtailment and stabilise market prices without sacrificing reliability.

Solution

  • Battery Performance Monitoring System: Sub-second, real-time data capture from cells—up to 18,000 data points every 10 seconds.
  • Predictive Analytics: AI models detect anomalies early to improve efficiency and financial performance.
  • Dashboard Visualisation: Clear, decision-ready dashboards to accelerate issue resolution.

Results

  • Enhanced Energy Management: Tighter control of stored energy improves grid stability and dispatchability.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Early detection reduces downtime and preserves asset performance.

Impact

  • Capacity & Coverage: 150 MW supports ~15,000 homes for 24 hours, accelerating the transition to net-zero.
  • Innovative Technology: A benchmark for data-driven BESS operations and maintenance.
  • Collaboration & Investment: Partnerships with Shell, Sungrow and The Huaneng Group showcase scalable deployment.

Following Minety, Q Energy is deploying the same model across new regions—expanding predictive maintenance capabilities and improving reliability of renewable energy storage systems at scale.
