Assets

60 kW heat pumps, 36kWh battery, SmartQube hub

Outcomes

Enhanced monitoring, reduced costs and carbon emissions

Challenge

The best time to establish protocols with your clients is when you onboard them.

Castle Green Hotel aimed to reduce its environmental impact and operational costs associated with energy consumption. The management was particularly interested in solutions that would not only decrease carbon output but also enhance control over energy use throughout the property.

Solution

The best time to establish protocols with your clients is when you onboard them.

To meet these goals, Q Energy, in collaboration with MJS Energy, embarked on a comprehensive energy overhaul for the hotel:

  • 60 kW Heat Pump Installation: A high-capacity heat pump was installed to significantly reduce the hotel's reliance on carbon-intensive energy sources.
  • Smart Controls and BMS Integration: Advanced smart controls were implemented alongside sub-meters connected to the Building Management System (BMS). This setup allows for precise control and monitoring of energy consumption across different areas of the hotel.
  • Battery Storage System: A 15 kW/36 kWh battery was installed to store excess energy, providing a reliable power supply and enabling energy use optimization.

Sub-Metering for Detailed Monitoring: Sub-meters were installed to monitor key appliances, including the heat pump, feeding real-time data into the Q Energy Platform for effective energy management.

Results

The best time to establish protocols with your clients is when you onboard them.

The installation of these systems provided the hotel with:

  • Reduced Carbon Emissions: The heat pump significantly cut the hotel’s carbon footprint by replacing traditional heating methods with a cleaner alternative.
  • Enhanced Energy Monitoring and Control: The BMS and smart controls allowed for real-time adjustments, optimising energy use and reducing waste.

Cost Savings: Initial reports indicate noticeable reductions in energy costs due to more efficient use and management of resources.

The best time to establish protocols with your clients is when you onboard them.

Impacts

The best time to establish protocols with your clients is when you onboard them.

The project not only bolstered Castle Green Hotel’s sustainability credentials but also showcased how integrated energy solutions can lead to substantial operational efficiencies in the hospitality sector.

Outcome
Higher uptime & stability

Challenge

As the UK moves toward net-zero 2050, managing the balance between intermittent renewable output and demand is critical. Minety required a way to store surplus energy, reduce curtailment and stabilise market prices without sacrificing reliability.

Solution

  • Battery Performance Monitoring System: Sub-second, real-time data capture from cells—up to 18,000 data points every 10 seconds.
  • Predictive Analytics: AI models detect anomalies early to improve efficiency and financial performance.
  • Dashboard Visualisation: Clear, decision-ready dashboards to accelerate issue resolution.

Results

  • Enhanced Energy Management: Tighter control of stored energy improves grid stability and dispatchability.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Early detection reduces downtime and preserves asset performance.

Impact

  • Capacity & Coverage: 150 MW supports ~15,000 homes for 24 hours, accelerating the transition to net-zero.
  • Innovative Technology: A benchmark for data-driven BESS operations and maintenance.
  • Collaboration & Investment: Partnerships with Shell, Sungrow and The Huaneng Group showcase scalable deployment.

Following Minety, Q Energy is deploying the same model across new regions—expanding predictive maintenance capabilities and improving reliability of renewable energy storage systems at scale.
