Challenge

The best time to establish protocols with your clients is when you onboard them.

The client aimed to decarbonise their property and achieve self-sufficiency due to occasional power outages. With no existing solar installations and a desire to expand their property with an orangery, the client needed a comprehensive renewable energy solution that could handle increased energy demands while providing income through energy generation.

Solution

The best time to establish protocols with your clients is when you onboard them.

To meet the client's needs, we conducted a detailed analysis of the current and forecasted energy usage. Our solution encompassed:

  • Installation of a 120kWh battery and a 30kW inverter to store and manage energy efficiently.
  • Initial installation of a 21kWh ground-mounted PV system, followed by an additional identical array to double the generation capacity.
  • Integration of an additional 80kWh battery capacity with an additional 20kW inverter to further enhance storage capabilities.
  • Installation of a G100 compliant switchgear to manage export limits, ensuring compliance and maximising financial returns from generated energy.
  • Future plans to connect hydropower to the battery storage system, further increasing energy generation and resilience.

Results

The best time to establish protocols with your clients is when you onboard them.

  • Enhanced Energy Capacity: The installations significantly increased the property’s energy generation and storage capacity from zero to 42kWp.
  • Income from Energy Exports: The client is now able to generate substantial income by exporting excess energy, with Q Energy’s AI technology automatically managing the storage capacity.
  • Prepared for Future Expansion: The infrastructure setup has been future-proofed with provisions for integrating hydropower, aligning with the client's vision of a fully sustainable and self-sufficient home.

The best time to establish protocols with your clients is when you onboard them.

Impacts

The best time to establish protocols with your clients is when you onboard them.

This project not only transformed the property’s energy system but also set a benchmark for residential renewable energy solutions:

  • Decarbonisation: The comprehensive setup supports a substantial reduction in carbon emissions.
  • Energy Independence: The client achieved a high degree of energy self-sufficiency, crucial for regions experiencing frequent power outages.
  • Economic Benefits: The ability to sell back excess energy provides a continuous income stream, offsetting installation costs and contributing to long-term financial sustainability.

Continued monitoring and optimisation of the system are planned to ensure maximum efficiency and performance. The upcoming integration of hydropower will complete the client’s vision of a diversified and robust renewable energy portfolio.

Challenge

As the UK moves toward net-zero 2050, managing the balance between intermittent renewable output and demand is critical. Minety required a way to store surplus energy, reduce curtailment and stabilise market prices without sacrificing reliability.

Solution

  • Battery Performance Monitoring System: Sub-second, real-time data capture from cells—up to 18,000 data points every 10 seconds.
  • Predictive Analytics: AI models detect anomalies early to improve efficiency and financial performance.
  • Dashboard Visualisation: Clear, decision-ready dashboards to accelerate issue resolution.

Results

  • Enhanced Energy Management: Tighter control of stored energy improves grid stability and dispatchability.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Early detection reduces downtime and preserves asset performance.

Impact

  • Capacity & Coverage: 150 MW supports ~15,000 homes for 24 hours, accelerating the transition to net-zero.
  • Innovative Technology: A benchmark for data-driven BESS operations and maintenance.
  • Collaboration & Investment: Partnerships with Shell, Sungrow and The Huaneng Group showcase scalable deployment.

Following Minety, Q Energy is deploying the same model across new regions—expanding predictive maintenance capabilities and improving reliability of renewable energy storage systems at scale.
