Large Residential Heat Pump Installation
Challenge
The homeowner was committed to decarbonising his property, which included a main house and a swimming pool complex, both serviced by three gas boilers. The goal was to replace these carbon-intensive systems with more sustainable technology without compromising on efficiency and while ensuring financial viability.
Solution
To address these needs, we implemented a dual heat pump system using two Heliotherms 18kW heat pumps—one for the house and one for the pool. Additionally, we installed a 180 kWh battery system with a 30 kW inverter, optimised for energy cost savings through the Octopus Go tariff, enabling 6-hour nightly charging at a low rate of 7.5p. The installation was managed in collaboration with our installation partner, MJS Energy, with the client deciding not to incorporate solar panels.
Results
- Energy Cost Reduction: The Q Energy SmartQube system facilitated a significant reduction in energy costs, saving the homeowner £10,465 in the first 12 months.
- Energy Bill Reduction: Achieved a 53.8% reduction in the energy bill during the first year.
Impact
The project not only met the client’s financial and environmental goals but also showcased the potential of integrating advanced heat pump technology and smart energy management systems in residential settings:
- Decarbonisation: By replacing gas boilers with heat pumps, the client significantly reduced their carbon emissions.
- Financial Efficiency: The strategic use of tariff and energy storage allowed the homeowner to maximise financial savings and enhance the property’s energy efficiency.
- Sustainable Living: This initiative reflects a shift towards sustainable living practices, setting a precedent for similar residential projects.
